Waste Management: Garbage / Recycle / Transfer Station

The Town of Blaine Lake contracts with 16 to 43 Waste Management, a regional waste management collective, to provide garbage and recycling collection services for town residents. Collections take place on an alternating weekly schedule every Thursday. Residents are asked to place their bins at the curb by 8:00 am on collection day, ensuring bins are set at least 6 feet apart and that all items are contained within the bin without overflowing.

Waste bins are provided to residents with active utility service, and each bin is assigned a recorded identification number. If your bin requires repair or replacement, please contact the Town Office.

Curious what goes in the blue bins?

Please do your part to flatten cardboard boxes before putting them into the recycle bins. By flattening the cardboard we can put twice as much material into the recycle bins. If we don’t flatten the boxes it defeats the purpose of recycling because the Loraas Disposal truck has to come out when the bin is only half full to empty it!

We do not accept Oil, Oil Filters or Plastic Oil Jugs/Oil Pails.

Water Treatment Plant & Waste Water Lagoon

The Blaine Lake Water Treatment Plant underwent significant upgrades in 2020 and 2021, ensuring the continued delivery of safe, clean drinking water to residents.

These improvements were made possible through funding provided by the Governments of Canada and Saskatchewan under the New Building Canada Fund.

The mechanical infrastructure and plant systems were supplied and installed by Pow City Mechanical of Saskatoon, while the facility building was constructed by Hipperson Construction.

The Town of Blaine Lake took a significant step forward in 2019 by pursuing the development of a new water treatment plant to address long-standing concerns about the quality of water being delivered to residents. For many years, the community had dealt with the challenges of extremely hard water, which is water that contains high levels of dissolved minerals such as calcium and magnesium. This hardness created a range of problems for residents, including scale buildup in pipes and appliances, reduced effectiveness of soaps and detergents, and potential long-term damage to household plumbing and water-using equipment.

The push for a new treatment facility reflected the town's commitment to providing safe, clean, and reliable drinking water to its residents. The upgraded system introduced modern treatment processes capable of reducing mineral content and improving the overall quality of water flowing to homes and businesses throughout the community. These improvements also addressed concerns related to water safety standards and allowed the town to better meet provincial and federal drinking water guidelines.

Since the completion of the upgrades, residents of Blaine Lake have experienced a noticeable improvement in their day-to-day quality of life. Softer water has meant less wear on appliances such as water heaters, dishwashers, and washing machines, translating into real savings for households over time. The improved taste and clarity of the water has also been welcomed by residents. Overall, the investment in the new water treatment plant represents a lasting benefit to the health, comfort, and financial well-being of the Blaine Lake community.

The Town is required to submit weekly water samples to the Saskatchewan Research Council in order to maintain an active permit to operate. Additional drinking water quality analysis is available through the Government of Saskatchewan or at the Town office.
